Find Cowbridge Physic Garden on a Map
Originally a kitchen garden for the old Grammar School, the old walled enclosure within the ancient town walls was also a tree nursery for South Glamorgan council and the whole area was in very poor repair at the end of the twentieth century.
As part of the 750th celebration of the forming of Cowbridge Borough, it was decided to create a Physic Garden on the site. Funds were raised, the Cowbridge Physic Garden Trust Ltd was formed; work commenced in 2004 and the garden was opened to the public in 2006.
The garden is accessible both from Church Street (opposite the old Grammar School building) and from Old Hall Gardens. Care is taken that all varieties of plants are more than two hundred years old (no hybrids or modern varieties). There are beds that include treatments for lots of different parts of the body – although visitors are discouraged from helping themselves!
The garden is open every day of the week. It is flat, easily accessible and there is no charge for entry.
