Play Friendly Communities

Our Inclusive Play Opportunities

We deliver inclusive open access play opportunities across the Vale, for ages 5 – 14 years. Our opportunities include: Playschemes delivered in community buildings including schools and community centres; Play Rangers delivered in parks and open spaces; Woody Wanderers delivered in forests and wooded areas.

Our highly qualified playworkers provide all children with a child-centred, challenging, friendly and fun place to play.

Our Families First Holiday Club Play Provision is funded to support children with disabilities and additional needs who may require more support than can be offered in our open access settings.

Families First Holiday Club is registered with Care Inspectorate Wales, our most recent inspection report can be accessed here:

Street Play

Vale Play Team are excited to be launching our pilot Street Play initiative in 2023. The pilot has been developed in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Play Team; Highways; Legal; Active Travel; and with support from Play Wales. Those involved in the pilot will be able to apply for a ‘Temporary Street Play Order’ to close their street for two hours a month, creating a space for children to play out under the supervision of their parents and carers.

"Street play, or ‘playing out’, sessions are short, resident-led road closures to let children play safely and freely outside their own front door. Streets are now doing this all over the UK and it’s having really positive benefits for children and communities." – What is Street Play? Playing Out

Playing Out are a national parent-led organisation who have developed free resources for residents organising play streets across the UK, see their website www.playingout.net

Play Wales have developed How to organise playing out sessions on your street: A version of Playing Out’s manual for residents in Wales which you can download for free along with other useful resources here:
