Free swimming sessions in the Vale of Glamorgan

Many of our residents are entitled to free swimming sessions at Legacy Leisure centres in the Vale of Glamorgan. This is a dedicated time slot for you to use the swimming pool in, not a swimming lesson.

 

  • People over the age of 60

    Legacy Leisure Centres offer free swimming sessions for people over the age of 60. You can book these sessions online. You will need to register for the 'Aquatically Active Scheme' at reception to redeem your free session. People over the age of 60 can also swim during any other session for £2.70

    Barry Leisure Centre - Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12.15 - 1pm

    Penarth Leisure Centre - Tuesday and Thursday from 12.30 - 1.30pm

    Llantwit Major Leisure Centre - Tuesdays from 2:15 - 3:15pm

  • Veterans
    Veterans can swim for free anytime at Barry Leisure centre. Please provide proof of your MOD ID at reception to redeem your free swim.

 

 

Other Initiatives

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has partnered with Sport Wales to offer the Golden Pass project, Free Swim initiatives and other incentives for staff. They work with a range of partners to organise and deliver a variety of free sports and play opportunities through playschemes, school holiday sports sessions, events and afterschool provisions. The Council has partnered with libraries across the Vale to provide a range of free equipment packs, which families can borrow at no cost, similar to checking out a library book. Equipment such as tennis rackets for use on courts, tennis bags and multi-activity bags are available for free to the public. See below which equipment your local library has to offer.

In collaboration with local food hubs, the Council also provides free equipment packs for families to borrow. Additionally, they have developed several free resources to help families access physical activity and play opportunities in the community. These resources, along with existing free offerings, have been compiled into dedicated pages on their website.
