Traffic Regulation Orders

What is a Traffic Regulation Order?

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legal document which we can introduce for the purpose of managing or restricting traffic on public roads.

TROs are required for:

  • Parking places

  • Waiting, loading and unloading bays

  • Double yellow lines

  • One way streets

  • Turning bans

  • Speed limits

  • Prohibition of vehicles

  • Vehicle weight restrictions

  • Bus and cycle lanes

  • Taxi ranks

We receive many requests to legally enforce parking on double yellow lines. Unfortunately, the legal procedure would be too costly and time consuming to get a TRO for every case. For this reason, the Council has adopted a policy where TROs are implemented when there is clear evidence of a road safety concern or restricted traffic flow along a road.
