MayorVisit_05The Council Civic Offices recently hosted an inspiring event where pupils from St. Helen’s Primary School were welcomed by the Mayor in the Cabinet Chambers. The day was designed to showcase how residents of all ages can actively participate in local government and have their voices heard.

The session began as one student had the honour of ringing the ceremonial bell to officially open proceedings in the council chambers.

Using the chambers’ intercom system, the pupils posed insightful questions to the Mayor about the workings of local government. Topics ranged from how decisions are made to addressing issues such as playground safety, access to recreational facilities, and environmental concerns—key matters affecting young people in the community. The Mayor listened attentively, offering thoughtful responses and encouraging the students to share their opinions.

The Mayor’s candid answers and genuine interest in the pupils’ perspectives reinforced the council’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and civic engagement across all age groups.

The visit concluded with a fun photo session where the pupils captured memories with the Mayor in the historic chambers. This was not just a photo opportunity but a moment to celebrate their involvement and enthusiasm for learning about local government.

Events like these demonstrate the council’s dedication to inspiring the next generation and ensuring that every voice matters, no matter how young. By opening the doors of the Civic Offices and creating spaces for dialogue, the council is paving the way for a more informed and engaged community.
