Penarth Learning Community Consultation
Change of opening date for new special school provision
The Penarth Learning Community is a flagship project and a key element of the Vale of Glamorgan Council's 21st Century Schools Investment Programme.
The project is a significant step in the ongoing transformation of educational delivery for children in the Vale and including a replacement of the current St Cyres School and a new special education needs facility replacing Ashgrove School, Ysgol Erw'r Delyn and Ysgol Maes Dyfan special schools.
The proposed opening date of the schools is the 10 November 2014 for St Cyres and the 5 January 2015 for special school provision.
The project is progressing well and is on track to open its doors to pupils on the 10 November 2014 to an extent that both facilities will be available to pupils from the 10 November 2014. It has therefore been proposed that pupils from the existing three special schools move into the special educational needs facility, Ysgol y Deri, from the 10 November 2014 also.
The council is therefore consulting on a proposal to open Ysgol y Deri from the 10 November 2014. The bringing forward of the opening date will provide continuity for the project and for all facilities to be available as one. The proposal will enable pupils to make use of this exceptional educational facility six school weeks earlier than planned. School transport arrangements, where applicable, will be brought forward to coincide with this opening date.
This consultation will run from the 10 February 2014 to 14 March 2014.
