Consultation on a proposal to amalgamate Cadoxton Primary and Nursery Schools

Consultation on a proposal to extend the age range of Cadoxton Primary School through the amalgamation of Cadoxton Primary and Nursery Schools
The Council proposes to create an ‘all through’ 3 to 11 years primary school to include a 100 part time place nursery class by amalgamating Cadoxton Primary and Nursery schools. The move would see Cadoxton Nursery School discontinued and a new single phase primary school instated across the two adjacent sites under a single Governing Body and Headteacher.
The Council considers that it is desirable to include a nursery class as part of a primary school. Out of the 15 primary schools in Barry, 14 have nursery classes which are part of the school. An amalgamation would move the two schools at Cadoxton in line with the rest of the primary schools in Barry. The children attending the nursery class will become part of the whole school family from their first day at school. Many families then choose to apply to the school for entry into the reception classes.
The proposal would see the two sites run as one single phase primary school, catering for pupils from the term after their third birthday up to the age of eleven when they leave for secondary school.
Further information about the consultation and the two schools involved can be found in the consultation document.
This consultation closed on the 15th February 2016. The responses received will now be considered and a report will be presented to the Council's Cabinet who will decide whether or not to proceed with the amalgamation.
